BOBBY MANN'S PORTFOLIO

Anthem
Anthem is an ambitious project that marries Bioware's story-driven gameplay with a live service multiplayer experience. In the game players could play a narrative campaign or just explore a large open world with other players, looking for fights and treasure.
Level Design
My duty as a World Designer was to design spaces for fights and encounters. We would decide on the space's theme and features in collaboration with level artists, then we would block in a layout. As these spaces were multipurpose, the layouts needed to host a wide variety of content. We designed our layouts so that they would always have clean flow inside and out, no matter the needs of the spawned encounter.

Exploration Systems
The exploration content could create many different experiences within the same space. Our team marked up the world so that the game's systems "understood" what the space was and where things could spawn.
Tool Scripting
Alongside the level work I also scripted some tools to improve parts of the world design workflow. Making maps to document the ever changing level was a time consuming process. I wrote a script to automate the process of getting level information out of the game engine and into Illustrator, and then exporting that into a jpeg. This script sped up my workflow significantly and I was able to post updated maps of the various regions much more frequently, ensuring that other parties had access to up-to-date maps.
